TRANSCRIPT: But it's still scary. You don't know if 0:01 you're getting a knock on the door in 0:02 the middle of the night. 0:03 Fastmoving flames forcing hundreds from 0:06 their homes overnight in Peachland. 0:08 Thousands more waited in uncertainty, 0:10 unsure if they'd be next. 0:12 How did you sleep last night? A little 0:13 nervous. 0:14 Yeah, not very well. Expecting a knock 0:16 on the door, but thankful the wind was 0:19 cooperative and we didn't get one. 0:21 The Monroe Lake wildfire erupted late 0:24 Thursday afternoon and grew to more than 0:27 200 hectares overnight. So right now 0:29 we're currently seeing rank two fire 0:31 behavior with some pockets of rank 0:33 three. So majority we're still seeing 0:35 mainly a low vigorous surface fire with 0:38 a slow rate of spread. 0:40 Resources focusing on priority areas 0:43 throughout the day. 0:44 Crews are mainly focusing along that 0:46 southeast kind of flank of the fire and 0:48 then working east along that flank. 0:50 That's definitely the priority area of 0:52 this fire and they are being assisted by 0:54 heavy equipment. The glow on the hills, 0:56 an eerie reminder of how fast fire can 0:59 move, even outside the peak of summer. 1:02 Well, it doesn't seem like fall. This is 1:03 September's the new August. You know, I 1:06 got my winter clothes on and it's not 1:07 winter yet. 1:08 By Friday, a calmer scene brought some 1:11 relief. 1:11 Yeah, I think I feel a little better 1:13 now. I think they're starting to knock 1:15 that down a bit. As long as the wind 1:17 doesn't pick up. 1:18 This is the third wildfire to spark in 1:20 Peachland this summer. And just like the 1:22 others, it triggered evacuation orders 1:24 and alerts. But the mayor says if 1:26 there's one thing these fires have 1:28 shown, it's that Peachland knows how to 1:30 respond. 1:31 Well, the thing about this summer is 1:32 that we were well prepared for the first 1:34 two fires and we were well prepared for 1:37 this one. Uh the cooperation in the 1:39 central galaga between all the fire 1:41 departments is excellent. The EOC uh 1:44 knows what to do. Victoria Famia, Global 1:47 News, Peachland.
