UN urges climate change justice, funding even after Tr- ANI News video n transcript- Heating Planet blog

No country should have to choose between combating poverty and protecting the planet. Every country should be able to choose their own path. We need to increase funding funneled to the most vulnerable countries. It's a matter of justice and it's these countries which are suffering the most  from climate change. Watch: ANI News Sep 24, 2025  report Countries at UN urge for justice, funding for climate change after Trump calls it ‘conman’ job transcript below    No country should have to choose between 0:04 combating poverty and protecting the 0:06 planet. 0:09 Every country should be able to choose 0:11 their own path. 0:14 We need to increase funding funneled to 0:16 the most vulnerable countries. It's a 0:18 matter of justice and it's these 0:20 countries which are suffering the most 0:22 from climate change. We need to mobilize 0:25 private finance a lot more. That's at 0:28 the heart of the World Bank and the 0:30 International Monetary Fund reforms. 0:32 This is necessary to ensure we achieve 0:35 this transition. 0:37 And last but not least, science should 0:40 be at the heart of our policies and the 0:42 decisions we take. 0:47 Sometimes we hear narratives to the 0:49 effect that climate issues, biodiversity 0:53 are up for debate. 0:55 Some people say the science is not 0:57 clear-cut. 0:59 But I do believe the science is clear. 1:02 Recognized scientists, eminent 1:04 scientists harbor no doubts. 1:07 We defend open free science so that we 1:10 can underpin our decisions with that 1:12 science. And that is why 800 1:15 intergovernmental panel on climate 1:17 change scientists will be meeting later 1:19 this year to continue driving ahead this 1:22 agenda here at the United Nations. so 1:24 that we make good decisions. Thank you 1:27 very much for your collective efforts. I 1:30 thank you. 1:33 Those with the greatest responsibility 1:35 and the greatest capacity to act must do 1:38 far more. Align your economies with 1.5. 1:44 Phase out fossil fuels and exhilarate 1:46 the transition to clean energy. and 1:50 ensure that your actions inspire 1:53 confidence, not doubt in the 1:55 multilateral process. 1:58 The recent opinion from the ICJ has 2:02 reaffirmed 2:04 that 2:06 what OOS has long said, climate action 2:10 is not optional. It is an obligation 2:13 grounded in international law and in the 2:16 principles of equity and justice. The 2:19 world must look to this opinion as a 2:23 moral and legal compass underscoring 2:26 that failure to act is failure to meet 2:30 international duty. Palao today holds a 2:34 rare net negative status. Our f forest 2:38 absorb more than six times the 2:41 greenhouse gases we emit. But we are not 2:44 stopping there. By 2035, we are 2:48 committing to slash emissions by 44% 2:51 compared to 2015 levels. 2:53 Australia's 2035 target is to reduce 2:57 emissions by 62 to 70% on 2005 levels. 3:04 This target is ambitious but importantly 3:08 it is also achievable. It is backed by 3:11 the independent scientific advice of our 3:14 climate change authority. It will mean 3:17 that over the next decade we have our 3:20 current level of emissions and it will 3:24 ensure that Australia honors our 3:26 commitment to the Paris Agreement and 3:28 its goal of keeping global temperatures 3:31 below dangerous levels. 3:34 Setting targets and showing ambition 3:36 matters. It provides accountability for 3:39 government and certainty for private 3:41 sector investment. What is most 3:44 important is having the practical plan 3:46 to reach our goal. And that is where 3:49 Australian clean energy is the key. Just 3:52 as our traditional resources have helped 3:55 to power the extraordinary economic 3:58 transformation of our region, our 4:00 renewables can underpin new prosperity 4:03 for the growing economies of the 4:05 Indo-Pacific. 4:07 And our Pacific family is partnering 4:09 with Australia in our bid to host COP 31 4:14 in next year. We want to bring the world 4:17 with us on climate change. Not by asking 4:21 any nation to forego the jobs or 4:24 security that its people deserve, but by 4:28 working with every nation to seize and 4:30 share those opportunities. 4:33 None of us can succeed alone, but 4:36 together we cannot fail. I thank you.
