Authorities advised residents to stay away from beaches, 7:54 cancel marine activities, and remain alert for further updates. 8:25 Severe Tropical Storm Opong has now reached Mindoro after crossing the Sibuyas and 8:30 Tablas Islands in Romblon. After making its third and fourth landfalls in San Fernando, 8:37 Romblon and Alcantara, Romblon at 8:10 AM and 9:20 AM respectively, 8:43 Typhoon Opong continues to move west-northwest. It is expected 8:48 to make another landfall in the southern part of Occidental Mindoro later today. 9:13 It is expected to emerge again in the Mindoro Strait tonight, heading towards 9:18 the West Philippine Sea. It will leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by tomorrow, 9:23 September 27, in the afternoon. The storm was last spotted at 10:00 AM today in the sea of 9:30 Ferrol, Romblon, carrying winds of 110 km/h and gusts of up to 150 km/h. It is moving at 9:39 a speed of 35 kilometers per hour towards the southern part of the Mindoro islands. 10:11 Signal Number 3 is raised in Batangas, Marinduque, Romblon, Occidental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro; 10:19 Northern Aklan, and Caluya Island. Signal number 2 is raised in parts of Zambales, 10:25 Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, Camarines Sur, Albay, 10:33 Sorsogon, Masbate, Calamian Islands, Cuyo Islands, Northern Antique, and the other 11:01 areas. 11:01 President Marcos directed the NDRRMC and concerned agencies 11:06 to maximize government resources in preparation for the expected landfall 11:11 of Severe Tropical Storm Opong on Friday, while sustaining relief 11:15 and rehabilitation operations for communities earlier affected by Super Typhoon Nando. 11:35 Alejandro said most of the families preemptively evacuated were from Bicol region, with almost 11:41 93,000 families in temporary shelters. Alejandro added that Severe Tropical Storm Opong was moving 11:48 over Masbate, prompting continuous response operations in Regions 5 and 8. Authorities 11:54 said preparations were also underway in Region 4B which is bracing for the storm’s impact.
