At start of 20th century USA rose, fought two wars with integrity, but then liked its wars too much. At start of 21st century we were making up reasons to attack, showing our mighty mighty weapons and then, some computer nerds took us down without even firing a shot.
I'm reviewing “1984” and amazed at a tactic Big Brother uses to keep the citizens misinformed. It's Winston Smith’s job, in fact, to go in and rewrite the news, and Orwell describes the elaborate effort. To revise a report from a month ago, they had to destroy all copies of that paper or magazine and produce a new edition with the revised story. As Orwell / Smith described this process, I listened, thinking.
Revising news is so easy to do with the internet. You can go in and rewrite copy on a blog or website and leave no trail, so people visiting afterwards have no idea what the article used to say.
The internet makes rewriting history much easier than it was in 1948 when Orwell wrote 1984 and now we've got
