Addis Ababa "The African continent has been hit by horrendous weather patterns such as landslides, droughts, and floods. African leaders have been positioning the continent as ripe for investments in renewable energy, critical minerals for green technology"
African countries say they will never give up in their fight against climate change. A number of leaders are meeting in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa. This is a second climate summit seeking a common voice ahead of the global climate talks COP30 in Brazil later this year.
"No nation can solve this crisis alone. Only through bold, united and sustained collaboration can we avert climate catastrophe." Sep 9, 2025 SABC News video: "Climate Change | Vulnerability of African countries to climate change" transcript below

We're not here to negotiate our
0:02
survival. We're here to design the
0:06
world's next climate economy.
0:09
If we make the right choices now,
0:14
Africa
0:15
can be the first continent to
0:18
industrialize without destroying its
0:21
ecosystems.
0:23
The African continent has been hit by
0:25
horrendous weather patterns such as
0:28
landslides, droughts, and floods.
0:30
Leaders say they cannot overlook this
0:32
crisis as it continues to affect their
0:35
countries. Too often commitments are
0:39
broken and international solidarity is
0:42
dismissed as weakness, precisely when
0:45
the scale of climate crisis demands
0:48
enhanced cooperation, not less.
0:52
The truth is undeniable.
0:56
No nation can solve this crisis alone.
1:01
Only through bold, united and sustained
1:05
collaboration can we avert climate
1:07
catastrophe. African leaders have been
1:09
positioning the continent as ripe for
1:12
investments in renewable energy,
1:14
critical minerals for green technology
1:17
and food production to keep development
1:20
on track. The vulnerability of our mamba
1:23
countries caused by climate change, debt
1:26
burden and the structural inequalities
1:29
of the international financial
1:31
architecture must be redressed through
1:33
climate justice. We need a genuine
1:36
cooperation for the implementation of
1:39
our continent's adaptation plan by
1:42
providing financial resources,
1:44
technology and expertise. African
1:47
countries which are among the most
1:48
vulnerable to the adverse effects of
1:51
climate change have been calling for the
1:53
climate change talks to provide funds to
1:55
help them adapt and launch clean energy
1:59
projects
