TRANSCRIPT A sudden and violent hail storm swept across Beijing, transforming the city's evening 0:31 into a dramatic scene of flashing lightning, roaring thunder, and crashing ice. Residents 0:53 in multiple districts including Daxing, Fangtai, Dongchang, Siang, 0:58 Haidian, and Xiao Yang were caught off guard as the storm descended 1:02 with little warning. The skies darkened quickly. Wind gusts picked up and within 1:06 minutes large hailstones began pounding rooftops, vehicles, and city streets. 1:32 [Music] 1:33 The sound of hail colliding with metal and glass echoed through neighborhoods as people 1:37 rushed indoors, abandoning outdoor plans and seeking shelter from the onslaught. In parts of 1:43 the city, rain poured in heavy sheets, blurring visibility and overwhelming drainage systems. 2:05 In Menugu district, the rain reached remarkable intensity with over 30 2:10 mm falling in a short period of time. Water pulled along major intersections, 2:16 slowing traffic to a crawl while cars struggled to navigate flooded underpasses. 2:49 Public transportation already strained by evening demand was disrupted as bus 2:54 routes faced delays and subway stations battled water seepage. For those caught on the streets, 3:00 umbrellas proved useless against the combination of strong winds and hail. 3:28 [Applause] 3:29 Pedestrians huddled under shop awnings were crowded into metro entrances waiting 3:34 for the storm to pass. The storm brought an eerie contrast to the city's usual rhythm. 4:08 In commercial areas, brightly lit billboards flickered under sheets of rain. While in quieter 4:13 residential neighborhoods, the pounding hail rattled windows and sent children and pets into 4:18 hiding. Lightning illuminated the sky in bursts, casting sharp shadows over high-rise towers, 4:24 followed seconds later by the booming echo of thunder rolling across the city. 4:57 The dramatic display of nature reminded many of the fragility of daily routines 5:02 as plans for shopping, dining, and commuting ing were instantly replaced with the urgent 5:07 need for safety. Authorities quickly responded with multiple weather alerts, 5:12 warning citizens to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. 5:52 Emergency services were placed on standby to deal with potential damage from falling debris, 5:56 broken glass, or flash flooding. While no immediate reports of severe injuries emerged, 6:01 minor accidents and property damage were inevitable. Cars parked along treeline 6:06 streets bore the brunt of the hail with dense peppering hoods and roofs. And in some cases, 6:12 shattered windshields left vehicles unusable. 6:46 Garden plants and street greenery were shredded by ice pellets, leaving behind a layer of broken 6:51 leaves scattered across sidewalks. As the storm tracked from west to east, 6:55 intensity varied by district. Some areas saw only brief but powerful downpours, 7:00 while others endured extended barges of hail mixed with torrential rain. Gusty winds added 7:06 to the sense of chaos, pushing debris into the air and knocking down loose items from balconies. 7:36
