- the support to residents 2:38 here that we can How does 2:41 this flooding compared to 2:42 what the Chattanooga area? 2:44 Normally sees as far as 2:46 flooding goes. well, this 2:48 is Extreme. I mean this 2:49 is the lowest line part 2:50 of the county and it's a 2:52 city that's known to have 2:53 occasional flooding issues. 2:54 But this appears to be the 2:55 most flooding, we've had or 2:57 the most rainfall in 2:58 the short period of time. 2:59 since 1973.
7 inches of 3:02 rain between 5:00 3:03 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Uh, and 3:04 so this was extreme uh, 3:06 flooding. flash flooding and 3:08 and you know we should be 3:09 differentiated from 3:10 flooding I think 3:11 there are some frustration 3:12 How did the interstate 3:13 flood? is 1 of the 3:14 questions that we've gotten 3:16 in The bottom line is 3:16 when you see this type of 3:18 rain in such a short 3:18 period of time, uh, 3:20 anything can flood And I do 3:22 want to pop up more 3:23 of that video that we do 3:24 have coming in out of 3:25 that area. this 1 from Fox 3:27 News itself but you can see 3:29 just the high water there 3:30 and sadly, we do know as 3:31 I mentioned that there are 3:33 fatalities what do we 3:34 know about those who lost 3:36 their lives And at this point 3:37 is anyone still considered 3:39 missing? Yeah, we actually 3:42 do have 1. uh, person 3:44 that is still missing. We 3:45 do have the Chattanooga 3:47 fire department that has 3:47 been working 3:49 around the clock. They 3:50 actually did. see the 3:52 gentleman, uh, get Swept 3:53 Away by the waters last 3:54 night. and they have been 3:56 diligently trying to look 3:57 for him. We have had uh, 3:59 some deteence be due 4:01 to the fact of the heavy 4:02 storms that we continue 4:03 to have today. And 4:05 unfortunately we did have 3 4:07 uh people that did lose 4:09 their life. um From the 4:10 storm damage. It wasn't 4:11 from actually flooding but 4:13 we had um a tree that was 4:15 done. was Fallen due to the 4:17 loose soil and actually a 4:19 large tree came down on 4:20 top of their car. Try 4:22 driving down the road and 4:24 unfortunately, all 3 4:26 did not, uh, uh, did not. 4:28 live unfortunately. due to 4:30 the large amount of of the 4:32 tree that that actually 4:33 killed them. So it was 4:35 unfortunate but you know, I 4:36 will say this, you know we 4:37 opened our emergency 4:39 Operation Center yesterday 4:40 afternoon knowing that These 4:42 additional resources. 4:43 additional resources, we're 4:44 going to be needed. uh, to 4:46 support our County and 4:48 rightfully. So we are very 4:49 blessed to have these 4:50 resources available. and uh, 4:53 you know, right now our top 4:54 priority is just to 4:55 make sure that we take 4:56 care of our citizens. and 4:57 get our County back. To a 4:58 sense of normaly. And there 5:01 are people who aren't 5:02 necessarily familiar. there 5:03 with Chattanooga Tennessee, 5:05 and Hamilton. County. So 5:06 can you kind of describe 5:07 that area for folks who are 5:09 out there watching and maybe 5:10 aren't familiar? well, it's 5:12 the best part of the 5:13 world. uh, just to be fair 5:15 with your listeners 5:16 viewers. Um, we're on the 5:18 Georgia border Midway point 5:20 in a lot of ways between 5:21 uh, Nashville, Tennessee and 5:23 Atlanta, Georgia, uh creeks 5:24 and rivers. the counties cut 5:26 in half by the Tennessee 5:27 River and mountains and 5:28 ridges that make any type 5:29 of emergency response. 5:31 difficult. And uh, there's 5:33 10 municipalities Chad new 5:35 is the largest Eastridge is 5:36 the second largest. and you 5:37 saw again a and response to 5:40 the southernmost part of 5:41 our County last night 5:42 taking care of Neighbors. 5:43 Even volunteer agencies 5:45 responding from the North 5:46 End of the county with 5:46 boats. and it was really 5:49 well organized. State local 5:51 all the way down again to 5:52 volunteer agencies coming 5:53 into heavily populated 5:56 municipalities to help. And 5:58 you kind of mentioned this 5:59 at the start of this. But 6:00 what is the water situation 6:02 like right now? because, 6:03 you know, we're looking at 6:04 these images but essentially 6:06 these are from uh, late 6:07 yesterday as well as 6:09 overnight. So what is the 6:10 situation? on the ground 6:11 there, right now? well, 6:13 a lot of most of the water 6:15 has receded as of last 6:16 night, we were able to 6:17 open the interstate back 6:18 up. uh, within a probably 6:20 about 10 p.m. we did have a 6:22 lot of help with our local 6:24 and state officials that 6:25 were able to help. uh, 6:27 remove at least over 60 6:28 vehicles that were 6:29 stranded on the interstate, 6:31 so that we can get that 6:32 main thoroughfare back up 6:33 and running. So, I mean 6:35 we've actually actually had 6:37 uh, a lot of numerous 911 6:38 calls that we were able to. 6:40 eventually get them all 6:41 answered. and um, you know 6:43 it it takes a it takes a 6:45 team to to make things 6:46 run well and I, I do 6:48 believe that we were able 6:49 to accomplish what we 6:50 needed. to accomplish last 6:51 night. all right, Amy 6:54 Maxwell there. and 6:55 Weston wamp. Thank you so 6:56 much for taking the time 6:57 to join us here and 6:58 kind of break down the 6:59 latest situation there on 7:00 the ground. our prayers, our 7:02 thoughts, of course are 7:02 with you and the community 7:04 there. in Chattanooga and 7:05 Hamilton County. Thank you 7:06 again for
