The Covid-19 Transcripts, origin

I've been a citizen journalist since 2007  (see links to 10 years of CofA blogs in left hand column under "Roots") and in this shutdown, in hours I would be transcribing for work, I transcribe video and audio I find online. The work I post here at City of Angels Blog are clips that contain information I don't think is available anywhere else in print. Please show your appreciation by clicking some cash into my PayPal account through button at top of left hand column. Thank you ) (

Transcribing is not that much work for me,

It actually helps me stay sharp

I've been transcribing video for a living since 1998, and the TV and film producers who are our clients demand perfection and speed. By now I've developed techniques where I can go as fast as a human speaks, almost. So doing The Covid-19 Transcripts project is not that much work, especially for someone who is abiding by the state's stay at home orders.  Production is completely stopped, so my job has come to a stop and I have a lot of time on my hands. (For job, the videos come in my email, that's how I live in Tahoe but work in L.A.) I want to keep my skills up. PLUS at age 71, doing a job that calls for concentration like this, I am actually sharper mentally now than I was in my fifties, and I don't want to lose that sharpness while this shutdown goes on. So don’t worry about me working too hard, otherwise during the shutdown, I'd be sipping through my alcohol supply way before I want to go out and buy more. . . I do however need PayPal clicks, just like $5 or higher, as my income is 1/4 what it was last month.

Transcript: Malcolm Nance talks to Stephanie Miller re Trump claim to be wartime president (March 25 2020)

(The Covid-19 Transcripts)
S:  As a former Navy guy, a former intelligence officer, you said Trump has abandoned the nation, [NY Gov] Cuomo needs to show that New York won't roll over.  It's time to call up the National Guard.  We are having to step in on the state and local level in place of the giant void of leadership where the Commander in Chief should be.

M:  This is the truth and Governor Cuomo is stepping up to be the leader that the other states don’t have.  And Trump has obviously lost his mind, clearly lost his ever loving mind.

S:  You have tweeted the Hash Tag 25th Amendment Now, how can you watch these things Trump says and does and not be even more terrified?

M:  He's got this belief that the virus is over and I think in his head, based on what he's said, he feels that he can isolate the virus to New York, California, and Washington State and every- I believe the phrase he used was, it's a geographical problem.  He has no clue.  Governor Cuomo was right when he said what we're having now, which is just starting to go up the curve, we're nowhere near the peak, every state in the country is going to have in three to five weeks.  And Donald Trump is incompetent, he has no idea of what he's doing, it's all about his buddies and the stock market and him and his properties losing cash, he does not care whether or not American citizens live or die, that is very clear and that's-

S:  It's the Ukraine story all over again, and he's vindictive- New York is not being nice enough to me, Cuomo is not being respectful, he's basing it on partisanship. He's going to decide who gets to live and die now and if he gets a quid pro quo, you be nice to us, it's got to be two ways.

M:  He wrote that in his tweet this morning.  which they read live on air and it was absolutely disgraceful.  A real leader, whether in military or civilian world will jump up and say hey, immediate action now.  We have to absolutely take care of everybody, mobilize every national resource that we have.  The very fact that the entire U.S. Army has not been mobilized and re-called- and as I said, they don’t have to come with guns at all.  We need trucks, we need logistics, the ability to move people and materials.  Field kitchens could be established at every hospital to take that burden of these now 24 hour non stop emergency management shifts off of the cafeteria of these hospitals.  These people are exhausted, we have an enormous amount of equipment manpower and resources in the Armed Forces.  Trump will not pull that trigger.  And to be honest, I think he wants to leave it where it is so that he can have his friends profit off of it.  A friend wrote to me this morning, he's not a wartime president, he's a war time profiteer.

S:  Yes, [CONVERSATION;  as a former intelligence officer who has served his country in war, this is like Iraq sending our men into war without proper equipment based on lies. As an intelligence professional, when he keep repeating no one could have seen this coming?  Yes you must- this is all in your book, Plot to Betray America.

M:  It is.

S:  This is another version of him believing Putin instead of our intelligence agencies.  He believed [Chinese Premier] Xi instead of our intelligence agencies about this threat back in January, right?

M:  When I wrote Plot to Betray it was really about how he compromised national security for essentially personal profit, and his friends, one of whom is Vladimir Putin.  I'm going to update it in the upcoming paperback edition right up to now.  It's an example of how Trump would rather see his friends benefit from this, rather than the average American.
When I served in the armed forces dealing with horrible people on other side of the world, I did it to protect every American citizen and by extension the rest of the world.  Donald Trump doesn't think like that, he does not see his job as President of the United States as one, he doesn't see himself as a leader.  He is standing back- remember how they used to criticize President Obama for leading from the rear?  Obama let experts do the job.  He does not want responsibility for the deaths that are coming, and he wants to put that on the governors.
And so he's- this whole thing of we're not a shipping clerk, yes the U.S. government is a shipping clerk, it is a logistics hub, we have an entire infrastructure built for this, he eliminated it.  [CONVERSATION ABOUT IMPEACHMENT] it should be very seriously considered that he has abdicated his responsibility as president of the United States and you know there's money out there somewhere.
*
M:  We're past damage control mode.  New York state is testing because they need to know how big the spread of the virus is in order to calculate a whole range of things.  Testing is life in this circumstance.  Trump does not believe that, he has lied repeatedly about the tests. We have millions of tests, they're going out, we have lots of tests.  That was weeks and weeks ago, he is a liar and you cannot trust him to take care of anyone in the United States.
But Wait until Red America starts to get hit, and I'm going to tell you, ground zero for him suddenly becoming a believer will be when Florida starts getting decimated because the governor did not close the beaches, let spring break go forward, let Disney World go forward, and they have one of the largest elderly populations in this country.
[Discussion on using armed forced to move ventilators where they're needed as Cuomo has requested. ]
M: Cuomo is taking this seriously, he is concerned about the population, particularly of New York City, which has half the cases in the world right now. We have three cases in my county, they came in by train from New York City
We know how it's going to transmit, but this requires national leadership.
[Quotes play from Biden]
M:  We need a nation wide lockdown for fourteen days.  Trump in his mind has this belief that he established a lockdown ten days ago and it's in his head that the whole country did it, he is clueless.  Look his staff is popping positive for Coronavirus.  I don't want anyone to be sick, it does not help our health care system.
*
M:  I went through a program fifteen years ago where we discussed nation killer viruses.  This is not a nation killer, this isn’t smallpox, okay, smallpox would kill thirty percent of the nation, and even the vaccine kills three percent who take it.  This is not our challenge, our challenge is to stay home and watch streaming videos.

Transcript: 'Cuomo like general under fire, enemy approaching from all sides, and President dismissive. This is War' (Morning Joe 3/25/2020)

Beginning 0:25 seconds in on this video:
(The Covid-19 Transcripts)

Mika: That was President Trump on his relationship with the nation's governors, many of whom are pleading for help.

Joe: And I just tell you right off the top, the President of the United States is saying Governor Cuomo shouldn't be asking. And I'm sure Republicans and Democrats alike understand the humanitarian crisis, unparalleled health crisis coming to New York City.  They hear Cuomo begging for help for the residents.
This is war.  More people can die from this than died from every war in our history.
This is like a general under fire knowing that the enemy is approaching from all sides and begging for help for the sake of American people, seniors.  And the president in that moment seemed dismissive almost contemptuous of that and, Mika, we're going to show some charts from Johns Hopkins and others showing the crisis coming to America is going to be unprecedented, going to look worse than China Italy Spain France.
We are going to be the epicenter of this, we're going to show you-
This is like a hurricane that's coming on shore, coming closer and closer.  Being a Floridian I'm very aware of people who mock the warning and end up dead.  Remember the school buses in the parking lot during Hurricane Katrina?
Well the school buses are still in the parking lot.  The President is saying the hurricane is not coming he was saying it's a hoax.
You can't negotiate with a hurricane, you can't negotiate with a pandemic.  While Britain and the rest of the world see this hurricane coming, they see it coming.

M:  They're locking it down.

J:  They're locking it down.  Because they saw what happened in Italy, politicians mocking this coming storm and now they're seeing people on the floor of hospitals gasping for breath and dying alone.  And that's moved from Italy to Spain and, friends, as much as I hate to say this, it's coming to the United States, the hurricane is coming.
You know the press conference yesterday where the president said we'll have everything over by Easter, I'm glad the markets went up, great for your 401 K's, it's not going to happen, it's not going to be lifted by Easter.
We're going to be looking at scenes in New York City hospitals, health care officials tell me, that are going to look as horrid as what happened in Italy.
New York is going to look like Italy if this president doesn't recognize that there's a storm off shore.  That storm is coming, it's not a hoax, not fifteen people who have it and pretty soon that number will be down to zero as president said.
Just because it's not impacting your neighborhood now,
What you did three weeks ago is affecting you today, what you do today is going to affect you three week from now.
Mr. President please, for the sake of … all of us … please recognize that storm is coming and stop telling people they're going to go out on their sailboats on Easter Day with a Category Five Hurricane brewing off shore.

Transcript: 'Mardi Gras was perfect storm for spread of this virus' (Rebekah Gee on Rachel Maddow Show 3/24)

(Video at bottom of post)
(Update March 28, now Maddow show transcripts are all up on her site, when I posted this there was only one from February. So good for them for putting transcribers back to work, I won't be doing any more Maddow clips for this project, will focus on info that is not available in print anywhere.)
(The Covid-19 Transcripts)
RM: Two weeks ago the great state of Louisiana had zero cases of COVID-19.  Now the number of cases in Louisiana has risen faster than anywhere else known in the world.  Louisiana has gone from zero cases to one thousand three hundred and eighty eight cases in two weeks.  The New Orleans metropolitan area now has more cases than Los Angeles county which has a population twenty six times as large  as New Orleans.  The governor asking for disaster declaration.  …The Governor of Louisiana is warning now that per state projections for the city of New Orleans current of hospitalization significantly exceed capacity beginning on April 4, 2020, which means New Orleans won't be able to continue to provide hospital care at the end of next week.  Some Louisiana officials say that Mardi Gras celebrations last month may have been a sort of virological accellerant in Louisiana.  When one point four million people flooded into the city to party and parade in the streets at a time when we now know Coronavirus was spreading in the United States.  Among doctors worried Mardi Gras in New Orleans this year may have been that kind of a problem is Dr. Rebekah Gee. I appreciate you making time tonight thank you.
*
RM: What do you make of the projection that New Orleans hospital capacity may be overtopped by next week?
RG:  As you just mentioned Mardi Gras was the perfect storm for spread of this virus.  We now know that this virus is incredibly infectious. You can get it not just from coughing or sneezing on someone but breathing or standing next to them.  Not only do we have people in floats but people in parties, people from all over the world came then left and spread the virus to other parts.
So we have documentation that the virus was here at that time, and unfortunately people were throwing beads and sharing drinks, not only throwing beads but likely throwing COVID 19 and people were catching that when they came here for the celebration.
So because of that we have the worst problem in terms of the number of cases moving past at sixty eight percent increase in two weeks, which is higher than L.A.  and higher than Italy.  And so the projections are real projections based on the experience of other places and need to be taken seriously.
(Later in program:)
RM:  We hear about shortages of equipment, nurses not having access to enough masks, nurses worried about not being able to protect themselves and potentially bringing this home to their families.  Does the state have a handle on those problems that are already manifesting in wards around the state?
RG:  well this is a big problem and it really is a supply chain problem.  Normally you have supply chain from China that allows hospitals to get what they need but now it's disrupted.
You have individuals who are price gouging, buying up hundreds of thousands or a million masks in one case last week, much of week I spent sourcing masks, and that disrupts the normal supply chain.
That being said, people are resorting in New Orleans now to making masks in a local furniture store, we're using three D printers to print face screens and right now things are okay.  But the estimates are that we're about four days out from being out of personal protective equipment and today people are re-using their PPE and masks, being instructed to in some settings put them in a paper bag at the end of the day and reuse it the next day, and that would never happen in normal conditions.
*
Dr. Rebekah Gee was recently head of Louisiana's Health Department and is now CEO of their Health Care Services Division.

I see that Rachel Maddow show transcripts are a year behind on their website and there are No Transcripts online for many shows, also some friends can't stream due to wifi connections. So I'm about to start a new project, in part to keep my skills up, in part to donate to the world the way retired docs and nurses are coming back to work for crisis.

First one is here from Rachel Maddow Show last night :50 mins into the show.

it is weird that this shutdown started in China on Chinese New Years, i have to admit

I only go out dressed like people in China do in this crisis, with mask and raincoat and hat and gloves. Use an ordinary polyester scarf as a mask, makes me look like an Islamic terrorist but oh well.
Then take all outdoor gear including shoes off at door when get home and separate it from rest of living area.
been watching "citizen journalist" videos on YouTube for weeks.

all our raincoats already come from China and are made of that impenetrable fabric, they wear same coats we get at Ross on streets of Wuhan through this...

bright side

as a PTSD-addled obsessive compulsive germaphobe who never goes out, it's kinda interesting to watch everyone have to live the way I have been for years
Trump is a Russian military intel operative now in fifth year of infiltration, finally carrying out mission made possible by his presence in Oval Office: killing Americans
I think...

COVID-19 came by way of Himalayan bats and climate change

Pretty sure COVID-19 was part of the glacier melt last summer in what used to be called Tibet, then bats absorbed the virus by drinking ice melt, as bats do, then they flew down the mountain to what is now called Hubei Province and ended up for sale as food in city of Wujan. (Update, have since learned they probably bit chickens who were then sold in markets.)
So COVID-19 came to us by way of a Himalayan bat just living its life- and climate change.
https://www.google.com/search?q=28+viruses+found+in+glacier&oq=28+viruses+found+in+glacier&aqs=chrome..69i57j33.5651j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
People keep blaming the wet-markets in China, which do look really gross, but it seems to me that once a virus is released, it finds a way around
And there may soon be a COVID-20 or 21 or more as more glaciers and icecaps melt.
I want a designer Hazmat suit before I go out again

Those ramifications Mika mentioned include Americans killed, on purpose by my observation, press finally begins to see Trump's lies as weapons

I've watched since February as we have been told, "Don’t go out if you are sick" when it's people who are not sick but infected who were spreading the virus. Everyone whose job was to inform people about Coronavirus has copied and pasted that list of "things to do" that probably originated in D.C., but was widely re-distributed, including by our local hospital and newspaper.
That was disinformation that may have gotten people killed, could have made more people sick with COVID-19. Because people heard that it was still okay to go out and interact when they might have been infected.
I am still raging inside that here in HUD senior housing there have been people walking around and going out and coming back in and walking around, no masks no gloves laughing, breathing on each other.
I hope I'm overreacting then I heard Mika B this AM: The masks are "not available now, what the vice president just said, he's in charge of task force, standing next to president of United States the Vice President said something that is not true."
Trump clips then play: We're not a shipping clerk, nobody in their wildest dreams:
Mika B: "He's detached putting out information that is not true and his minions on Fox are then repeating what is not true. This is a crisis in leadership that is ultimately going to have incredible ramifications for the American people."
Been saying exact same thing for three and a half years.
And today those ramifications will kill Americans.
More Mika B: "Look at the White House this morning, the lights are out. (eerie scene of darkened White House) What I'm saying is this is symbolic, because Americans are doing social distancing, health care workers doing what they can to confront this crisis without supplies, you've got scientists saying that we are directly on track with Italy and yet the lights seem to be out completely in the White House.
"This president seems to be putting out false information by the day. The president also claimed yesterday that an anti malaria drug would be available almost immediately to help treat corona virus, that is not true."

Can Libertarians just will away a virus?

what bugs me is since many neighbors are coming and going, as are personnel here, no masks or gloves, the halls could be full of virus in the air for hours after they walk through... then i realize, not EVERYONE out there is infected.
Or are they?
In Communist China everyone was Forced into lockdown and they seem to be controlling spread of virus there.
In Libertarian Northern California you can come and go freely or lockdown, your choice.
we'll see how this turns out.

Self Isolation like a ride on a space ship

Self isolating, I feel like I'm riding a space ship to an unknown destination, windows and doors of my rooms protect me from hostile elements in the matter outside. I'm well supplied with video and reading material, plus have chores to do to maintain life support. As I fly through space, I'm careful to keep my use of resources down so they last, as I really don’t know how long this trip will take.
I figure it will be about three weeks before we see crammed overwhelmed hospitals as a result of all those people crammed into airports and college age kids doing spring break on beaches past week.
The sun streams directly into my room around 3-5 every afternoon so I sit in the window letting it hit my face. I turn on music to exercise and find other ways to stay healthy within my sterile walls.

To me, Tahoe is about health, even now as COVID-19 arrives with a spring snow storm

I hadn’t been outside in weeks already because I fell on ice and broke a hip late December, so last week I was outside getting direct sunlight and standing six feet from one of my neighbors talking when Josh drove up.  As he unloaded his trunk, I conversated, have you been on a trip. He turned and shouted at me, "No I've been skiing, in case you didn't realize it, that's what Tahoe is all about, skiing." Then he slammed his hood and tromped into the building.  I've mentioned before that the locals are kind of unfriendly to me.
But since then I haven’t been able to get the conversation out of my mind.
Because skiing is not what Tahoe has ever meant to me.
I grew up around the film industry, and from teen years on I got part time and full time jobs off that enterprise.  In the years I was young and beautiful, I temped at the studios.  (I only mention looks because when I went to those same agencies overweight in my fifties, they treated me really bad. In my twenties, they showered me with gifts to get me to stay. Finally I asked one owner, "Why? Fifteen years ago you had me working every day." He sneered at me, "That was fifteen years ago.")
As a studio temp, I'd get assignments where all I had to do was sit in the front office and answer a phone, now and then do a rudimentary task such as alphabetizing index cards.
One assignment was at Paramount studios, the executive offices where the main guys had comfortable well furnished suites. I'd sit there with nothing to do ALL DAY, if the phone rang I answered and logged the calls.  Then around 4:30 or later, the bosses would tromp in and shout, can you stay overtime? And of course I'd say yes and spend next few hours placing phone calls and making copies but honestly my main job was to look good, be part of the decoration, and I had lots of dates and went to lots of parties in beautiful homes and don’t regret an hour of it.
Often an old guy would stand over my desk and tell me stories from the old days. So it must have been during that time in my life that I learned about Lake Tahoe and it had nothing to do with skiing, it was about REHAB.
Movie stars, when they developed drug and alcohol problems in the early days, like 1910, would be poured half-comatose as secretly as possible onto a private train car and taken to Tahoe.  It used to be easier to get here from L.A. than it is now by train.  They'd arrive in Truckee then ride down to the lake where there were several sanitariums.
Guys like Fattie Arbuckle and others would hide in Tahoe to dry out, go through drug detox, in a place where none of the news media in L.A. would find them. So for me, Tahoe has always been a place you come to hide out, get healthy, recover in privacy.
Today in Tahoe they almost worship the local hospital for its broken bone business, which is ancillary to the ski industry which they also worship.
But to me, Tahoe has always been about recovery, relaxation, getting healthy after something made you sick.
Today we are covered in snow and reporting no COVID-19 "confirmed" cases.
Yesterday as I watched the spring snow fall and pile up by the foot through the window while self quarantined inside, I wondered, will the snow kill the virus in Tahoe?

Non-response to virus is new weapon from guys who flew airplanes into buildings

Trump's weird response/non-response is part of the attack on USA, he's an actor playing part he was hired to play now reading confusing scripts but turning down test kits, not building MASH hospitals, not doing anything but leading thousands into crowded airports to possibly bring in more infection. A lot more Americans will get killed bk of his weird response.
Since 9/11 Saudi/Putin have used unique and original ways to attack USA... the first Trojan Horse came from Assyria.

Republicans are getting the shutdown they always wanted
Didn't that shutdown idea originate with Rush Limbaugh?

Life in Self-Isolation containing COVID19 can be illuminating

I'm doing movie Yoga. Click on YouTube playlist, sit still back straight breathe as one film plays after another, let yourself feel the hunger, as your groceries have to last...

After months of this shutdown, what will things be like?
I'm determined to stay alive just to see what happens.

MEANWHILE
finally my OCD germaphobia makes sense
Men, please shave those beards as they could be tangled with virus molecules and you don't know it... also people with long hair they wear in loose dangling strands... a virus will latch onto that hair and ride it. Finally I can tell people to keep their beautiful but toxic nasty long hair off of me. Cut it or tie it back, keep it off me

Hello out there?

Quarantine: Imagine I'm on a space ship, self contained, traveling through unknown matter, not sure when I will arrive, so have to keep self healthy and fueled... rice, lotsa rice and pasta will get me to my new galaxy.
what happens in 2 months or so when I've been in my apartment, running around my desk for exercise, living on donations and Instacart what they can find on shelves... and the virus is still here? There won't be a vaccine, will I have to stay in my apt now for months years? How crazy am I going to go, will they start giving us suicide kits? I'm freaking a bit...
grateful i'm not an alcoholic or totally broke so I can sip my gimlets through this.
yeah
