Utah floods sparked a major emergency in Hurricane, Utah, as severe flash floods sent a powerful surge through Gould Wash, forcing evacuations and threatening nearby streets and properties. Heavy thunderstorms triggered road closures, power shutoffs, and dangerous river flooding across southern Utah. [The city of Hurricane was first settled in 1896 and received its name after a whirlwind blew the top off a buggy in which Erastus Snow was riding. Snow exclaimed, "Well, that was a Hurricane. We'll name this 'Hurricane Hill'." The community was settled as part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints's (LDS Church) per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane,_Utah I had to check because at first I thought maybe storms from the Pacific often blew that far north east. But no, a Mormon leader saw the wind and said, let's name this Hurricane. Hmm, could Erastus Snow have been a prophet?] VIDEO: Utah, USA in Flood Chaos! Flash flood warnings affected areas near Zion National Park, including Springdale, Rockville, and Kolob Canyons.
In the Glen Canyon region, widespread flooding and rising rivers created dangerous conditions. The Escalante River reached approximately 1,660 cubic feet per second near Escalante, while the Paria River experienced hazardous flows.
