Residents of Malaysia's Taiping in the northern Perak state were trapped in their flood of homes on Thursday, October 23rd, eyewitness video showed after torrential rain struck the region. Roads were seen inundated with vehicles partially submerged as residents used rafts to move around. The footage showed local authorities launched disaster response on Thursday evening as conditions worsened in several districts. According to a statement on Facebook from Perak's Chief Minister, Sarni Muhammad, the statement added that over 2,000 residents have been evacuated to temporary shelters as of Friday, October 24th morning. Rainfall was forecast to continue through Friday, local media reported, citing Malaysia's meteorological department.
