We cut and pasted with scissors and glue in 1970s newsrooms- Morning Rap

When I first became a journalist, cut and paste was literal. You would take scissors and cut a paragraph and paste it in a new place in the story on another piece of paper.  If you wrote a long feature article, you'd have pieces of typing paper spread all around the room. When you realize the paragraph on page 60 would be better on page one, you would take the scissors and cut it, carry it across the room, and paste it onto page one. Plus we were writing on typewriters, manual typewriters when I first started, later in the mid-1960s, electric. If you were working for a newspaper, everything had to be triple spaced so that the editors had plenty of room to write their changes in pencils made of extra soft lead so they would glide fast across the page.
