Russia’s Amur River is falling at Khabarovsk, but high water remains a concern farther downstream, where several gauges are still above official warning marks. On Sunday Sep 13, the river at Khabarovsk dropped 20 centimetres to 332 centimetres, while Nizhnetambovskoye remained above its unfavourable level at 689 centimetres.

The flooding picture is not limited to the Amur. In Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, forecasters are warning of further river rises as a cyclone off the Sea of Okhotsk brings rain to rivers that were already running high. One lower-Amur gauge at Bogorodskoye was also still rising on Sunday.
