Straight Face into Camera
I often watch the news with the sound down while
I work and tonight both CNN and MSNBC have done several stories an
hour about a deflated football. Then just now
on Fox they have Donald Trump talking about business, politics, and family. Donald Trump on family. Fox hosts can say that with a straight face into
camera because they are being paid that much.

Old People Are Smart
When will people realize Getting Old is an Accomplishment, something to be proud of as most people can't do it, and that perky hairdo that's lopsided above your wrinkled face is not fooling anyone, and people who make it past seventy might just know something.

The Solar System Is Ours for the Taking but. . .
.
It's inevitable that humans will become one race, global. You see the beginnings of it today, especially in bigger cities where kids from several generations of mixed race end up looking like one race, humans.
It's inevitable that humans will become one race, global. You see the beginnings of it today, especially in bigger cities where kids from several generations of mixed race end up looking like one race, humans.
We are not black or white or Hispanic or Asian, we are all Earthlings.
Remember, less than a hundred years ago we thought there were Martians or other creatures close by in the sky watching us. Now we know the solar system is ours for the taking.

But instead of taking advantage of our new territories, Earthlings
waste time on wars. We've gotten an inkling of what the future could be during space missions and military ops, where humans communicate and work together on one bandwidth.
We become
one mind as each person runs their part of the project.
In spaceflight we work together and achieve a common goal: Go to the Moon, bring Skylab back to Earth. Today we get distracted by clicking on gossip sites and taking selfies, because the technology is still new, but once we start really living on those bandwidths, communicating globally, it will change humans.

Earthlings
will expand into the solar system, it's just a matter of time. And it won’t be done by one lone star fleet
commander and a crew on a ship, it will be humans acting as one, working in
teams, sharing the work, sharing the glory.
The
solar system is ours. There's no
Martians out there going to shoot us down if we land on their planet. It's ours.
We're headed inevitably into our solar system, but for now we have to deal with forces that pull us
back before we can go forward again.

I Miss Bennies
In the
sixties you could get these little white pills, Benzedrine, they had an X on
them and were cheap. Imported from Mexico, Bennies were a dollar a roll, ten pills tightly bound in tin foil. You could pop them and be up all
night. I worked in a coffee shop on Santa
Monica Boulevard and everyone was popping bennies, popping bennies, and then up all night, rap rap rap rap rap.
I had
one friend who had three jobs. She just
never slept. When she needed a few hours, she’d
take two bennies and lie down on her bed, then the bennies would kick in and she’d pop back awake, get up, and get dressed for her next job. She was skinny, had flashing
eyes, and would rap rap rap rap rap.
I don't
know if anyone ever let another else get a word in edgewise, on Bennies. The word rap entered our vernacular thanks to bennies. They preceded methadrene and crack and even cocaine as the speed drug of
choice.
You
popped bennies and then you ground your teeth and your brain just ran and ran
and you solved every problem that ever crossed your mind and felt compelled to
tell whoever was near you all about it.
You needed no food, but a caffeine kicker was great. You and your fellow benny head friends owned the city streets in the hours before dawn. You were skinny and could wear all the best
clothes, and thought you looked so great with your bright eyes.
Getting
skinnier and skinnier, your gums getting so weak and wobbly they no longer held your teeth and they fell out, your bones cracking.

LA is rudest city
As I think back to my years in L.A. up to 2010, main thing I remember is as an aging woman, if you ask someone to give you a seat on the bus, they will as soon, hit you upside the head and grab your purse. As you walk slower than others, they just push past you, glad to know you make it easy for them to get ahead. If you need help, you are met with a hostile glare, to get social services you need connections. That has a lot to do with why I left L.A., that and the dirty concrete everywhere, piles of trash that just keep getting higher. Somewhere in all that is my daughter, I hope she is strong and smart enough to survive it. She is always welcome here, but she has to shower several times when she leaves L.A. so glad to be gone.
