At Dulles, Trump plane parked next to Russian govt plane, UAE C-17 nearby, today, Chat copied here

Saturday Update: Andrew Leyden opens chat, followed by others posting, names left out at CofA Blog. Read the chat on X here

Trump’s plane is still at IAD* next to the Russian government plane, which appears to be readying to leave soon. A United Arab Emirates Air Force C-17 is also parked nearby today.

Russian plane has just left IAD. (4 hours ago c. 1 PM pacific time)

Wondered why his plane flew to Dulles from Atlanta, when his rally is in Chesapeake and Richm ond, Norfolk, and Newport-News all have runways capable of handling his plane. And then you see who he happens to be parked next to. I'm not saying it is what it looks like, but

UAE nearby? Wtf?

Any non-trump U.S. planes parked near by? Thank you.

No. This is a very isolated part of the airport between the runways not near the terminals or main airport parking area.

Russians scheduled to leave for New York today, and back to Moscow shortly thereafter. UAE Air Force C-17A is Registration 1229, Hex Code 896C3E.

Goodness - this should be a media headline - but what do you want to bet not only will they never mention it - they're not even checking into it ... Thank you

They aren’t even trying to hide what they are doing anymore. They are doing it in plain sight. Under normal times could you imagine the secret service allowing that? Clearly the same agents who were trying to get Pence out of the capital are on his detail now.

The optics aren’t good especially for an individual who is pro-Putin, was in possession of stolen TS classified files and incited an insurrection. Oh, and is a convicted felon.

Interesting, birds of a feather flock together?

So what do a Saudi, a Russian, & a trump aircraft parked close to one another in what looks to be an isolated area of an airport have in common??

Are trumps people transferring classified material to those planes

It’s a good thing all the classified documents Trump stole from the White House have been accounted for. No wait… On a completely unrelated note, it’s a good thing air-gapped systems can’t exfiltrate data within line of sight

They heard Trump was having a classified documents auction today.

As a felon, Trump cannot travel overseas to multiple countries. This appears to be a way around that: let them come to him. Despicable.

So is it possible that those two countries are interfering in our elections again? They want 2 billion dollars worth of favors from Felon45?

JACK SMITH... go get a warrant!! That thing is a flying crime scene.

Wow - Donald is having a documents TWOFER sale!

That's not an Air Force C-17 if it's a United Arab Emirates C-17.

Well well well. Surely the MSM will jump on this and talk about it for days and days. Right?

Wow great reporting. That's where all planes park that have people moved via security transfer. Not like they're going to walk through the airport

Reminds me of the meeting of the gang of criminals on the golf course.

I guess Trump found the rest of the Top US secrets and the UAE and Putin sent in the planes

Nothing to see here, just tuning up their Manchurian Candidate

Did he travel to Chesapeake from there? Norfolk AP is closer?

KO: Somewhere along the line it was prophesied, and many of us heard it 40 years ago 50 years ago, that eventually as television and other video electronic communications completely surpassed the newspaper organizations with their rigid standards and their extraordinarily competitive relationships with one another- as that happened as deadlines got tighter as the news cycle dropped

1:04:15

From well we're going to publish this story at 11 o'clock six hours from now to we're going to publish this story as soon as you finish typing it, the predictions were were made that so much of the journalism would drop out of Journalism. I think we have seen the low point of that. I began to worry about this and to talk about it on my first MSNBC show in 1998, when because the ratings were good-

1:04:45

The networks the news organizations of this country were willing to let a special prosecutor named Kenneth Starr do something as illegal as making public the secret videotaped grand jury testimony of the sitting president of the United States. That was what sent me fleeing back into sports because I didn't want to have anything more to do with it. Every time I brought it up, and every time I brought up the principal role of organizations like Fox News and Breitbart and the others of that time- every time I criticized the people who appeared on-

1:05:20

those networks or on those websites, I was accused of trying to be the left-wing version of fill in the blank. I was accused of doing this for the ratings. This is why I did it. Tonight is why I did it, in hopes of staving off the Fiasco that we saw tonight. You cannot put a man whose profession is lying on National Television in a debate for the most important job in the world at the most important moment in the history of the world, for at least the last 80 years.

1:05:50

You cannot put a professional liar on television and never say you are not telling the truth. Factchecking is the essential element of Journalism. It's where you begin. Is it raining or is it not raining? All you have to do Jake Tapper all you have to do Dana bash is walk over to the window and get us an answer. Or if you can't get us the answer

1:06:20

If your IFB cord is not long enough, if you're not wearing a mobile mic, if you can't get over there, at least ask the guy who just said not only is it raining but it's raining up from the ground- you have to ask him why he has said this, what is his evidence. You have to fact check him, CNN failed. They should go out of business tomorrow. We'll be back with a new edition of the podcast on Tuesday thank you for being with us I'm sorry the results were not better, I think I am repeating myself at this point.

But damn you to Hell Jake Tapper damn you to Hell Dana Bash bash damn you to Hell CNN. You blew your job tonight may you never get the opportunity to do it again. I'm Keith Olbermann thanks for being with us good night and good luck

Post debate ... Autocracy might not be all bad

I'm just hoping that under an autocracy broke old people will actually be treated better than we are under what the U.S. has turned into, as I've reached a place of acceptance. Global oil won.

Acceptance is the key to recovery, from drugs and alcohol addiction and from takeover of your country by shadowy forces. This is not USA anymore I've been saying that since the Obama administration, the way people were reacting to him.

They may be benevolent forces, whoever is taking over and ruining what's left of the USA. I was surprised, after studying Islam, what a peaceful practice it is, full of human rights and justice. Maybe if they take over, we'll all be better off.

Whatever. Just like with our vacancy tax election here locally, there are massive forces working against the American people right now, on levels we can't reach to even see who’s doing it, let alone fight back.

As an old lady news junkie, if nothing else, it's a fascinating time to be alive, observing from behind the trees…

Thursday, June 27, 2024

I used to wonder why Navanly and other Russian dissidents always spoke about corruption, instead of the many human rights violations by Putin’s government. But Now I Realize, after watching Trump and our Supreme Court, it's corruption that makes all the other violations possible.

Thug nation

The fix is in, USA is a thug nation. Nine witnesses in the upcoming criminal cases against Donald Trump have received major financial benefits, including large raises from his campaign, severance packages, new jobs, and a grant of shares and cash from Trump’s media company. And it's likely every judge he faces will be part of this coup. What can we do?

"A steady decline in hate crimes from 1990 till 2015. Then Trump comes down an escalator and begins campaign of hate"

* New Project documenting Thom Hartmann’s words on his weekday show starts today at City of Angels Blog. Watch video of the June 25 program here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Egge5wuSk6Y&t=2s

TH: Now hate has always been part of the American landscape. But interestingly 1990 or 91 was the year that the FBI began compiling statistics on hate crimes; it was a brand new thing this was during the George Herbert Walker Bush Administration. And looking at hate and hate crime seemed like a good

24:24

idea and so the FBI began compiling those statistics and with the exception of 1995 when for the first couple months after the Oklahoma city bombing every everybody in America thought it was Muslim, terrorists, and 2001 when 911 happened with the exception of those two years there has been a steady decline in hate crimes from 1990 till 2015 a steady decline a rather dramatic one in fact in two little bumps in the middle.

24:57

And  then Donald Trump jumps on the scene in 2015 in the republican primary comes down an escalator and begins his campaign with hate, hating on Mexicans calling them murderers and rapists and all this kind of thing. The fact of the the the simple reality is that communities that have the highest number of undocumented immigrants in them are the safest communities in America whether they're border towns along the southern border they have a lower crime rate than the

25:28

Rest of America or whether they big cities where where southern governors have shipped all kinds of migrants they now have the lowest crime rates in America too. Why, well of course because migrants are not coming to this country to commit crime. If they want to commit crime if they want to rob people or rape people they can do that in Mexico they can do that in Guatemala. They don't have to come here to do it, they come here looking for jobs and for freedom freedom from fear

25:54

Freedom from gangs freedom from violence. And they're looking looking to work they're not so quote illegal immigrants are more than 30% less likely to commit crimes in America than native born Americans. It's pretty amazing. But don't tell that to fox news don't tell that to to Donald trump don't tell that to the right- wingers the politics of of hate are cheap easy and effective which is why by and large

26:25

Since world war ii most of our politicians have not engaged in this. We had George Wallace back in the 60s and and Donald trump in 2015. And what happened in 2015 when Donald trump came came along well just that year the FBI reported that hate crimes in 2015 for the first time since 1990 with again with the exception of 95 and 2001 but basically for the first time since 1990 hate crimes went up 6.8% over 2014 the following year when trump became the

27:00

The republican party's nominee 2016 hate crimes went up another 5%. This is an explosion in hate violence. After trump declared he was going to ban all Muslim immigration after he became president anti-Muslimism hate crimes went up 67% and the fall winter of 2016 saw a 25.6% increase in documented hate crimes over the fourth quarter of 2015

27:28

A university of north Texas study found that counties that hosted a trump rally in 2016 saw a 126% increase in reported hate crimes when compared to counties in the same state that didn't have a trump rally. The simple reality is that hatred is contagious. It's every bit as contagious as a bacteria or a virus and when it infects a host and begins to grow to live and grow inside

27:58

That host it not only damages them psychologically and emotionally, it even damages them physically, this guy called into my program yesterday and was all bent out of shape about some illegal immigrant had raped some  girl someplace, some teenage girl right. And fox news had just pounded on it for days as has right-wing hate media, because hey any little excuse to promote hate, this

28:28

This is what the this is what the rightwing is all about these days. Let's find somebody to hate on let's hate on queer people let's hate on Muslims let's hate on black people let's hate out of Hispanics. This it's what they do. The Murdoch family has made billions pedaling hate in the united states England and the former prime minister of Australia Kevin Rudd wrote an op-ed for the Sydney Morning Herald, the kind of New York Times of Australia, that was headlined Rupert Murdoch is the cancer in Australian

29:02

Politics it's true. Trump's most recent hate filled abomination he was in front of a Christian conservative audience. And he said, let's throw immigrants into locked cages with professional cage fighters and see who wins. He said, I think the migrant guy might win that's how tough they are these are tough people these people are tough they're nasty they're mean it's incredible they come here to America totally- right sell that fear sell that hate there is truly no bottom.

Disinformation is a weapon of war and Democrats just laid down arms and let our enemies attack unimpeded

Of course I'm voting democrat and for the vacancy tax this November, but I'm scared. Because whoever went to all this trouble to destroy USA from within wasn’t doing it for TV ratings. I know enough history to know what a critical election this is for our nation. Unfortunately most Americans voting today barely read anything in their lives until someone put a Smart Phone in their hands, then those voters believed everything that came in to them on their phones, no questions asked, indeed thinking they were privy to some secret inner society, QAnon et al.

We never should have cut back on public education.

But still the Democratic Party is complicit in this slow moving coup.

They let the right prevent any Supreme Court nominations from Obama.

They let Trump's nominations to the Court outright lie to Congress at their confirmation hearings.

They let Trump fill hundreds of lower court judge positions with unqualified true-believers. Didn't the Dems even notice??????

Nancy P and friends stood by with mouths hanging open while Jan 6th happened and then held a few hearings but let organizers and anti-American sympathizers such as Josh Hawley and Jim Jordan and Marjorie Taylor Greene and so many others proceed unimpeded.

They watched the likes of GunsandHandsy from Rifle Colorado take "patriots" on tours of Congress on Jan 5th. Republicans chose her for their Congressional nominee last night, from a "new" district she could use to con her way back into Congress.

And now we get to watch America elect a guy who openly shared state secrets with foreign agents, beginning the first month he was in office in 2017; Trump got spies and their contacts killed in several nations by leaking state secrets through his entire 4 year term.

The Saudis paid Trump's son in law $4 billion dollars and Dems in Congress did not even mention a possible hearing on it. Then they watched the MAGA GOP destroy the life of Hunter Biden when he really did not break a law at all, he was just the President's son. So Soviet and Dems let it happen.

They watched as Trump eliminated Public Information Offices from all federal agencies his first month in office.

They watched as Trump replaced long time civil servants at federal agencies with unqualified personnel who are loyal to Trump. Those loyalists are all still there. Now Trump's guys want the right to fire civil servants and replace them with political nominees. For them first.

And if we elect Joe Biden, they will NEVER let him take office Jan 20 2025. Just like the Wallace machine in South Lake Tahoe won't let a vacancy tax ever happen even if 90 percent of residents vote for it.

Sorry, I've lived too long to think this can ever turn out well.

I probably won't go anywhere but online for awhile, tiptoeing in dead of night to the mail room to avoid the MAGA believers who live in my HUD building. The Fed gov pays most their rent, they're on Social Security plus SSI if that's too low, the food bank delivery brings everyone to the lobby, many are on food stamps, yet they are MAGA Republicans who love Donald Trump. That's how well the brainwashing of America has worked.

This is not the USA I loved and served.

Damn Democrats, you let this happen

this hasn’t been USA since T came down that escalator, and he's brought us all down lower and lower since, a slow descent that makes me think, who cares. I didn't just let this happen, I tried, I blogged. But now, might as well get high and watch movies, occasionally tuning into news to see how low it's gotten. I hope when Project 25 comes after journalists, it doesn't come after old lady bloggers. If the President gets reelected in November, maybe I’ll get enthused again. But living here in MAGA country, it feels like the zombies have taken over, so best to stay indoors alert to approaching strangers.

Right now, the courts are stacked, the election monitors in several states are willing to break all laws to help T, the MAGA zombies are so brainwashed they still think T was sent by God or at least Jesus… you can't win when the opposition has so much more power and so little knowledge.

Don’t even tell me I'm just a Democrat. I am SO ANGRY at the Democratic party right now, I can't have them as friends anymore than I can hang with MAGA, Democrats Let This Happen, that naïve “When they go low we go high” does not work when the people going low are getting their talking points and cash from foreign sources hostile against the U.S. Truth is the Russia/Saudi global oil dominators are going to go as low as they need to in order to destroy our nation. I can't be friends with anyone who let this happen. At least I think it's Saudi/Russia doing this. It makes sense, they have the money and the decades of excelling at spycraft.

Now we are living with Sedition all the way up to the highest courts.

Damn Democrats, you let this happen.

"Why I love Lake Tahoe and support a vacancy tax"

LTE posted in an almost secret part of the Trib website  here:  https://www.tahoedailytribune.com/news/letters-to-the-editor-98/

To the Editor:

I moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1993 when I was 19 years old. I turned 50 this spring and I’m still stoked to live here 30 years later. I love South Lake, but I’m starting to wonder what it will look like in another 30 years. Our town is changing, and shrinking, and losing “the middle”, and if you don’t see it, or you don’t want to do anything about it, I am writing this to you.

I worked at Boulder Lodge in rental and retail in ’93 for my first Tahoe job. That job paid enough for me to rent a 2-bedroom apartment in a 4-plex on Eloise for 500 bucks a month with a buddy. The next year, I rented a 2-bedroom house that was easy to find among all the available rental choices in town. I rented all sorts of amazing houses in various neighborhoods for 10 years before I bought my house. I’ve worked for several ski resorts, restaurants, D.L. Bliss State Park, backcountry snowmobile tours, built million-dollar mansions in Glenbrook, and almost any other classic Tahoe job you can think of. I’ve loved every minute of it. And I want others to have at least a shot at half the options I had. We actually can increase the pool of rental choices available, and have some effect on the cost of those rentals as well, by passing the Tahoe Vacancy Tax.

A vacancy tax is not a magic bullet that will take us back in time to 1993 (or even 2019) and fix all our problems. But it is an actual step we can take right now to help the current and future people that will make up the community we love. I still work with 19-year-olds looking for housing in Tahoe, like I did. And it’s not remotely similar for them at all. Part of that is certainly inflation and general cost of living changes, but a big part of it is the 44% of homes now sitting vacant in South Lake. Our community has always had a stream of those 19-year-olds like me looking for a rental. Many of them leave after a few seasons, but the ones like me, who stay for good, help create the actual community that we love. The mountain town feel. That’s what’s changing; the 19-year-olds that turn into 50-year-olds are getting turned away. There are many things we need to do to keep our town from shrinking away. But a simple change that will make a real difference is clear; A tax on the homes sitting empty.

In addition to being a South Lake Tahoe local of 30 years, I’m also a second homeowner. I bought my family’s property in Boonville where I grew up in Mendocino County. And if I move back there and the vacancy tax passes, I will have the choice to rent my Tahoe house, or keep it empty. If I rent it, I contribute to the community by providing housing. If I keep it empty, I contribute to the community by paying the vacancy tax. Every second homeowner, just like me, has the choice of paying the tax or not. And if you really love South Lake Tahoe, as I do, why wouldn’t you want to kick in and help out when the town faces a problem so big that we’re all called on to help?

At the end of the day, it comes down to whether you are willing to acknowledge the problem we face. Do we stick our head in the sand/snow and pretend there’s nothing wrong? Do we wait until the town is 55% vacant? …60%? …65%?

Or do we do something now?

If there are any other solutions that actually address and affect the problem we face, I’m open to it. But so far, no one has put up any ideas that make any real difference. Except this. We have a serious problem that’s been building up for decades, and it’s now becoming very noticeable and affecting many aspects of our lives and our town. We need big moves to make a real dent in the problem. Everyone who supports this vacancy tax is telling you that we want to take real steps to keep our town from fading away. We support a vibrant South Lake Tahoe community, and we invite you to join us in that support.

blogging

I am balancing on a fine line between journalistic truth and fiction based on real life, and I really want to topple over onto the side of fiction, as it's more fun. I used to think George Orwell was whispering in my ear until I realized, that's not even his real name…

 The Manchurian Wallaces lolololol

Organized Disinformation is the opponent that Vacancy Tax campaign faces

The Manchurian Wallaces, by Kay Ebeling

If Tami Wallace had not been trashing me in her Patriots group on Facebook last month, I would never have even mentioned the vacancy tax on this blog.

When I got the screenshots of the weird lies she was saying, I went whoa, that's a city councilwoman running a Patriots group, trashing a city resident who she's never met, how is that okay?

Then a few days later after a simple Google search I learned she and husband Duane went to Russia in 2000 as I posted here:

I think we have a Putin mole in South Lake Tahoe politics: Tami Wallace, council member / ex mayor / ubiquitous appointee to everything

More about the trip to Russia Tami and Duane Wallace took to learn how to exploit natural resources from a mountain lake, Putin style

Posted by Kay Ebeling, Born to Muckrake

***

T Wallace was downrapping me before I ever posted in favor of the VT here or anywhere. What brought me to Tami’s attention last month? At that point I’d joined a “community” group on FB looking for… community. The vacancy tax came up a lot and so I asked a lot of questions, then may have posted I was kinda leaning toward maybe voting yes.

If someone Googles my name they might find that I write a lot about Russian disinformation on this blog and years earlier about the pedophile priest crimes in the Catholic Church as one of the victims.

Who told her to single me out for attack on her Patriots group, I mean, Patriots, the most frightening anti-American movement that's been on U.S. soil since the Confederacy.

To be honest Tami and Bruce Wallace freak me out. It seems they started their political careers right after their return from indoctrination by Putin at a conference in Siberia near a lake in 2000. They probably thought they were going for good will and lotsa vodka, but instead found themselves droned to near comatose levels with one presentation after another about oil and gas extraction and pipelines.

Then they returned to Tahoe and started running for one office after another and maneuvered themselves into positions of power in the city that make it pretty much impossible to hold a fair election here, they'll just file lawsuits against it, with the considerable following they've developed in the decades since returning from Russia.

==========

"The Wallaces probably thought they were going to Russia for good will and lotsa vodka, but instead found themselves droned to near comatose levels with one presentation after another about oil and gas extraction and pipelines. Then they returned to Tahoe and started running for one office after another and maneuvered themselves into positions of power in the city and the region."

================

The first time I saw Fox News in 2013, my mouth fell open in shock. That's Russian soviet style propaganda I shouted at my screen.

I worked in the Newsroom at NASA in Houston in the late 1970s, a period when USA and Soviets were “friends” and part of my job was interacting and helping journalists from all over the world who came to write about the space program (a really cool job).

I spent a  lot of time talking to Soviet journalists on that job; we’d gather in Charles Redmond’s office, James Oberg often joined us, at the end of the day and chat, share stories. I Learned A Lot about Soviet disinformation tactics, way back then.

So as soon as I first saw Fox News, I knew it was Russian propaganda even though in 2013 Russia was supposedly our friend. Mitt Romney was first politician to try to point out that, no, Russia is not our friend anymore but a serious threat, in 2012, and people laughed at Mitt Romney for that.

Since then I've been writing about Russian produced disinformation and the horrible effect it's been having on USA since 2013, in letters to the editor in the Antelope Valley news sites and since then here on my blog.

Disinformation is at the root of the campaign against the vacancy tax in South Lake Tahoe, and since so much is orchestrated behind the scenes by the Wallaces et al, who took that trip to Russia….

Okay it sounds like a conspiracy theory to most people. But you don’t live with my peculiar frame of reference, my peculiar set of skills, from the weird life I've lived, I can't expect anyone to understand. I have the curse of Cassandra, the mythical woman who tried to warn the Trojans that the horse at the gate was not a friendly gift. Those of us with the curse of Cassandra see things before other people see them and have to suffer while we watch our beliefs be proved true, too late.

Meanwhile, the pro vacancy tax campaign needs to really work hard against a disinformation structure that is going to be massive and I think is financed and propagated by people who are not locals, not even Americans.

There's been a similar development in Huntington Beach last few years. A mayor and three city council members there appeared out of nowhere more or less and won elections. Now MAGA Republicans are making all the rules in HB and the locals are scratching their heads wondering what happened to our city? The wide-doe-eyed Gracey Van Der Mark with her drop-out education caught someone’s eye at a Moms for Banning Library Books event, and now she's mayor of Huntington Beach wreaking havoc.

I think Putin and his vast structure of spies came up with a scheme probably around the time the Wallaces went to Russia.

Find vulnerable Americans in small communities where the education level is low and there already is a latent distrust of the U.S. government. Maneuver those persons into positions of power in those cities. Then, destabilize.

We now have the Manchurian Wallaces.

I don't think Councilmember Scott Robbins who wrote the VT measure is a communist infiltrator as the anti tax people are spreading everywhere in Tahoe. Covert acts rely a lot on deflection: Accuse the opposition of doing what you are doing, so when the opposition finally see what you're doing, if they point it out, they will just look like they're on the defensive.

Total Soviet Tactic.

The infiltrators doing damage in South Lake Tahoe are the anti tax advocates.

Tahoe is being manipulated by some very sophisticated and well funded disinformation professionals, and people repeating their lies likely don’t even realize that's what they're doing.

Stay tuned.

The Wallaces probably thought they were going to Russia in 2000 for good will and lotsa vodka, but instead found themselves droned to near comatose levels with one presentation after another about oil and gas extraction and pipelines. Then they returned to Tahoe and started running for one office after another. (Story TK)

Something here stinks

I can't get image out of my head of photos I found on Facebook, on home pages of persons who were hollering at me in comments, after I started this blog. I was wondering who are these people who think filling out a form for the city is a massive invasion of privacy and a violation of the U.S. Constitution, etc.? So I’d click on their names to see their profiles. Wow, beautiful architecture, oh they're taking selfies from South America or Eastern Europe, apparently on long vacations or maybe that is just how they live. The hotel bills for one week have to be more than three to six thousand dollars they'd pay per year in the VT. Yet they can't agree to 3-6K tax on a property they own here that is sitting empty like someone parked it there and forgot it.

Something here stinks

Better headline: Chamber to crush election results, dictate its preferred outcome

Good evening Mr Mayor and members of the council staff ladies and gentlemen Steve Teshara for the record on behalf of the Tahoe chamber and the Keep Community First Coalition.  was a very instructive

1:55:28

discussion and presentation on the part of your staff. Our concern with the report is that it doesn't really meet the intent of the law that requires or allows a legislative body to have a report like this.

[hasn’t the Chamber been dead set against this measure since first time they heard of it? How are they expert on the intent of the law? ]

So the purpose of the

1:55:42

report under the law is to help the voters understand what they're voting on and I think this report fails. We understand it was a limited time and a limited budget but frankly based on the presentation they should have interviewed your staff the staff has more pertinent information as to what the impacts would be than the consultant who went hither and thither and looked at things that really don't bear on our situation.

With me tonight are

1:56:08

colleagues of mine Sharon Kerrigan, South Tahoe Association of Realtors, Jerry Bendel [general manager of the Forest Suites Resort, a 120-unit property on the California side tucked behind the Heavenly Village Shops ‘’ Duane Wallace [he's everywhere!] we've divided up our comments on the report so that we can meet your three-minute requirement. So my my purpose is to summarize there are many assumptions in this report and there's very little to back up why the assumptions were made. We heard already about the cost of implementing this it's significant I think your staff understands that it's not a couple people Dialing for Dollars [sigh hither and thither, dialing for dollars, really? ] it's a lot

1:56:39

more complicated than that the setup costs the what happens if it's litigated

[Right, if it's litigated,’ they're probably already  writing briefs.]

[Measure T passed 50 to 42% in 2018, and realtors et al filed a lawsuit against it weeks later and it's still tied up in court. These people do not respect the will of the people when they lose elections. I bet they're the same ones who kicked and screamed trying to prevent Tahoe from having a retail source of marijuana, even as medicine, about ten years ago but I have to research that, stay tuned.]

Anti Measure T claimed “resident exception unconstitutionally discriminates against nonresident homeowner”

[Jumping like a virus from a bat in Hunan Market to a constitutional argument, as the same people are doing now with the vacancy tax. When in doubt, shout “constitution” and since most Americans have really never read it, how can they respond. Back to the transcript ]

if somebody litigates, which they will if it passes and then the role of the oversight committee as I think council member Wallace pointed out. And the City attorney concurred that it's no different than any any of your other advisory committees they don't have the ability to oversee what you're doing so that is a misnomer and a pretty serious one and then privacy issue that was just raised these are huge. So I've been on the phone a lot with property owners

1:57:10

who would be affected by this if it passes. They're crying they're angry they're mystified.

[Have they heard anything but the misinformation put out by Stop the Vacancy Tax? What were those callers saying before they started crying? Did you tell her Communists are coming for your house and make her cry? Or did you say she could always file with the city for an exemption and calm her down with some truth?]

And I think this puts a black label on the city for a long time to come just that you would even think about doing to this this to them.

[Nope, from where I sit, it's the Chamber and other elite groups that have been in charge of this area for decades are putting a black label on the city already]

and the  the terminology in the report is bothersome units, these are not units. these are people these are their homes that they struggle to get and they're not all the same.

[If an owner of multiple properties feels aggrieved, they can appeal to the Council for an exemption, but no one from the Chamber mentions that. It's the Libertarian millionaires taking advantage of South Lake’s lax tax attitude while they watch the value of their investment property grow, that is who this tax aims for. If the Chamber were concerned about what is going on economically globally and how it affects locals, they would be ecstatic at finding a revenue source for our town, and a way to keep our homes from turning into global investment products.]

[The chamber only cares about businesses, the ones that pay into their coffers. This ain't your daddy’s chamber of commerce, but Duane et al will never admit it, Duane probably thinks he's really helping people who live in Tahoe by repeating the chamber's right wing sound bytes… SMH ]

1:57:40

and they've come to them by different ways and they don't want to be assessed the same that's an inequitable situation and as the mayor said this was pushed on the city

[that's not what the Mayor just said, jeez]

this is not the evening that you decided as a council when you thought about this you didn't want to pursue it litigation. was one one concerns you had

[And boy are we going to sue you we don’t care how people vote we're going to sue]

other ones but here it is pushed on the city and I don't think that's fair for the city if there was a way for the city

1:58:07

to decline to deal with this you know that would probably be something good so let me uh pass the Baton on other issues uh to my colleague Sharon Kerrigan thank you.

My name is Sharon Kerrigan I'm also with keep Community First Coalition

[doesn't mention she's from Association of Realtors]

and as my colleague Steve Teshara pointed out one of the critical ways in which this 9212 report really completely misses the Mark is in the likely massive bureaucracy

[Every right wing politician in USA for last sixty years probably longer has used that “big Bureaucracy” argument against EVERYTHING that progressives, aka people who want progress, try to accomplish, and LOOK AROUND YOU, see how well that's working? ]

that it's going to take to set it up administer and enforce it states it

1:58:41

would take a million the first year to set up and then just over 600,000 a year after that and ongoing cost but even a cursory review of that shows how quickly that assumption falls apart it seems to be based on just a quick chat with the staff at Oakland who administer their vacancy tax, that's the only other one operating something similar in California and based on these quick conversations the consultant concluded only three full-time City staff would [The Arrogance of telling the staff they couldn't have done more than a cursory look]  needed to administer this but if you do the math.

Iif Oakland has 4,000 vacant

1:59:13

units and we have almost 17,000 housing units that sounds to me like four times the number of staff that would be needed

[and four times the amount of revenue our city is missing out on because the Chamber is against it] if they have five or six that sounds like 24 staff to me [wow, more jobs] so South Lake Tahoe  is vastly different than Oakland

[we have four times the need to collect this revenue than Oakland then]

as well uh that is we've got

1:59:35

single family residences we've got condos we've got mobile homes are those going to also be un subject to the tax if 40% of these simply refuse to comply is it really worth it to pursue this there's going to be be thousands of individual cases files and appeals and people that are trying to avoid this tax

[our friends don’t want to pay their taxes so let’s give our friends a free ride]

2:00:06

that the staff is going to have to go through so if the city has just over 200 employees now 110 in public safety and 90 in other government services we would need to increase our non-public safety Staffing by over 50% just to administer

[JOBS JOBS JOBS]

[oh the chamber only believes in private sector hiring I guess, or their members are government haters]

this program and on top of that what about the cost to set up the software the systems the hardware uh to monitor 177,000 homes when has a government ever set up a new computer system on time  and under budget even if you charitably call that another million dollar you're now talking about $10 million or more uh tax which would cost 8.5 million to set up and

[even if that's accurate it's 1.5 million in new revenue, plus solving the problem of blight and comatose ghost-town eeriness in some neighborhoods from all the empty houses, what are you arguing against]

02:40:06

administer and enforce it would become a tax increase whose proceeds go almost entirely to pay for the enforcement of the tax and what is the point of that [1.5 million] so this report completely missed the mark on the cost of enforcement but rest assured that we are going to be working very hard to get the truth out to the voters.

[AH THERE IT IS, the phrase that caused me to want to deconstruct this transcript. The CofC promise a massive “information campaign” that will fill our heads with Chamber of Commerce right wing anti-tax anti government sound bytes for the next four months]

2:01:03

Thank you for the record Jerry Bendell also with the keep Community First Coalition I want to drill down on some points about the enforcement that the the report actually completely missed even though the measure starts costing taxpayer money to the tune of millions of dollars starting in early 2025 that Sharon just outlined the start of the vacancy tax period calculations don't begin until

2:01:33

2026 that means we won't see any revenue from the measure until 2027 after the city figures out which homes in 2026 were subject to the tax and which weren't where will all this money come from we could spend Millions from early 2025

[Nice to see the Chamber being so cooperative when you know they will be the biggest obstruction to this tax ever succeeding. We're going to hear right wing libertarian anti tax anti government sound bytes nonstop from them instead of the community working together to make this revenue source work]

2:01:52

to the spring of 2027 when the first tax receipts do arrive will the vital programs of the city such as police fire rescue Parks and Recreation pothole repair and yes even our existing Housing Programs be cut to pay for this vacancy tax bureaucracy

[Scare Tactics]

will we empty our carefully managed reserves which the city set up for a rainy day for a rainy day fund for emergencies and downturns an economy will we tap will we tap into that worse

2:02:27

yet will the city go into debt borrowing against the hope that vacancy tax collections will eventually happen as this measure authorizes in 2027 I'd like to discuss some of the report's assumptions as well as was pointed out by council members this report was thrown together too fast with

[I don't think any council person said “thrown together too fast" but I’ll check]

nowhere near enough resources to do a proper job analyzing a measure this

2:02:57

complex the report makes some wild assumptions about the housing in South Lake Tahoe it surmises that roughly half of the 177,000 homes are not occupied  full-time based on the sole fact that property tax bills are being sent to a different address it assumes that between 30 and 60% of these homes are actually vacant but do not outline how they came to that measurement the report assumes that 40% of the vacant homeowners will simply refuse to pay the tax and that the city could just accept this as a cost of

[I guess if you're a friend of the real estate association or chamber of commerce you can just refuse to pay taxes]

enforcement later the report acknowledges that this cost could get a lot more expensive the city chooses to get aggressive further into the report another assumption is made that the tax

2:03:46

will result in 1,500 new full-time residents generating 500,000 a year in Revenue it misses that the 34 million per year which is paid by some Not so wealthy taxpayers will result in a massive tax increase that could decrease their

[Everybody on both sides is speculating here, the difference is a vacancy tax will at least start to address the problems, and voting down the tax means nothing will be done at all and leaves the issues that need addressing to deteriorate further, pretty clear choice to me, and if 20 more people get good paying jobs with the city out of it, great.]

2:04:06

spending offsetting any of those tax gains thank you and I turn over to Duane. e thank you Mr Bendel Mr Wallace

Duane Wallace with Keep Community First

[Okay I went to this group’s website and there's a list of names, it's apparently formed solely to stop the Vacancy Tax, it doesn't say if it's a nonprofit or a paid lobbyist group, it doesn't say where they're getting their money. I googled and googled and this one website with five names on it is all I could find, and their letter to South Tahoe Now announcing they're formation April this year solely to stop this tax. Pretty shadowy, pretty sneaky, pretty much what the seven or so people who run this town have counted on getting away with for decades, that no one would question them ]

on the way over here I had to take my granddaughter and get her something to eat real quick so uh the advertisement says how great Happy Meals are so drove her through McDonald's got through ordered a Happy Meal with cheese by the

2:04:38

way I let her splurge and as we drove away she says wait a minute there's no Burger there and that's exactly what's going on here this is a burger short of a Happy Meal. [a riffle of polite laughter]  type of proposal and the reason I say that is because if when I try to describe it to somebody I have to say well our Council didn't do this they voted it down the staff City staff didn't want it they saw that there were problems with it so one council member and a group of friends got

2:05:11

together and told people they were all going to get new houses if they voted for this and wouldn't have to pay for

[THAT'S A LIE!!! Duane Wallace is LYING here]

[Where? When? Show me the quotes, this is a lie the Chamber et al have been spreading in Tahoe for months, no one said this but people against the tax, claiming the proponents said it. SO SHADY, like I said, Maga Republicans only know deceit and lies as a way to win elections because the grass roots would never support them if they heard the truth. For Shame ]

[Nobody told “people they were all going to get new houses” except people against the tax lying about the tax aaaarrghh ]

2:05:16

And so that's what happened people said okay so it's on the ballot it only took um uh I don't know four or 500 bad signatures but they got it they got it on the ballot

[Once again Duane makes stuff up about those deadbeats that seem to live in right wing anti everything humans’ brains because they don’t believe in helping anyone ]

now you're faced with pretending that you're that you're okay or that you can uh work with this when in the truth I haven't talked to one city employee of any kind that thinks that this is a good idea for one thing they don't don't see any money going to

2:05:48

police and fire Services they see it taking up and consuming consuming all the hours and time of the entire city not only that but you're going to create an uh IRS a city IRS and the first thing you have to do is go against the Constitution and say you are guilty until you're proven innocent

[Oh man, Duane is really getting carried away here, the Constitution does not prohibit a city from levying property taxes…. ]

2:06:12

those people will have to come to you and prove they're innocent I've looked into the Vancouver tax now it's obviously Canada and they do things different but the people there with just two years back notice have to go through their receipts and show that they bought gas at a local gas station that they went to a local doctor that they that they have used local services and they're frantic because if

[Canadian and irrelevant to an American city, wow Duane, I expected better from you]

2:06:41

they don't get those receipts in to these inspectors who evidently maybe get a bonus

[Duane sounds a lot like Donald Trump going on a mind-wandering rant, they must eat the same nuggets ]

for collecting they're scared to death and now Vancouver is talking about making it $30,000 so when you rob Peter to pay Paul, Paul's always happy but it goes against so many aspects of the Constitution our City attorney is excellent and she's trying to be stoic

[when she knows these very people are going to be the ones who slam her with court filings on November 5 if this tax passes]

2:07:08

here but when we get to the actual point where this has to be implemented there are so many taking Clauses and things that she mentioned it just scares me to death so please keep that in mind okay..

2:07:21

End of chamber of commerce / Keep Community First tag team presentation

***

So vote no because the vacancy tax scares Duane Wallace right.

No, vote yes so Duane Wallace and a small group of his friends can stop intimidating voters and obstructing progress in South Lake Tahoe.

And intimidating us. Stop intimidating voters and make a genuine argument. Oh, you don't have one so all you've got is voter intimidation...

I'm done for now as the Intimidators are attacking me on social media again,
