Mark Twain spent time in Tahoe, and a lot of locals are proud of that. But he had to leave town suddenly in the dead of night, saying he would never come back. He had been writing editorials in a Carson paper that favored the Union, and all the Confederates in the region attacked him, much like I'm getting attacked here for supporting the vacancy tax. interesting. History repeats itself, but truth and justice win out in the end.

We can see who is on the right side of history, at least

Anti VT folks say filling out a form is an invasion of privacy, in an era where the government is in our bedrooms and doctor offices. People who own more than one home are filing lawsuits against paying a special property tax at a time when a growing number of Americans have no home at all.

Just saying

The anti tax people promise lawsuit after lawsuit to keep from paying a little tax (compared to cost of most homes) for their empty second homes here. So they will spend THOUSANDS to keep from contributing to the revenue in this town that looks like backwoods Appalachia when you drive on the back streets., Just Pay Your Taxes,

Actually the anti VT tax group are intimidating local voters from their real homes and threatening to file lawsuits rather than just pay a tax if they owe it. (more to come soon at CofA Blog about the letter)

The Tahoe Taxpayers League promises to do everything it can to keep anyone from paying taxes.

Many of the anti VT comments on social media come from people who, when you look at their profiles, spend months of every year traveling all over the world. But 3K a year property tax for their second or third home in Tahoe is out of the question. Would it hurt their travel plans?
