Connecticut flooding has left roads underwater and vehicles stranded as powerful flash flooding hit Westport, Norwalk and other communities across Fairfield County and southwestern Connecticut. Heavy rainfall overwhelmed streets and drainage systems, sending floodwater across low-lying roads, underpasses and major travel routes. Westport flooding caused serious travel problems and stranded vehicles, while Norwalk flooding affected multiple roads and disrupted normal activity across the city. Flooding was also reported in Greenwich, Stamford, Darien, Fairfield and Bridgeport, with additional impacts extending toward New Haven and North Haven. Emergency crews responded to flood-related incidents as rapidly rising water created hazardous conditions for drivers across several affected communities. Transportation was heavily disrupted across parts of Connecticut. Flooding affected portions of I-95, while rail service between Norwalk and Bridgeport was interrupted. The severe weather also affected operations around Tweed New Haven Airport, adding to transportation problems across southern Connecticut.

NBC REPORT

Severe weather caused significant flooding and damage in Westport, with Sconset Square among the hardest-hit areas. Residents and business owners described water rushing through the area after Dead Man’s Brook overflowed, damaging properties and forcing some closures. Casa Me owner Mario Fontana said five cooks who arrived early for a booked brunch helped keep floodwaters from causing major damage inside the restaurant. Westport is now asking homeowners and business owners to report storm damage through the state’s Crisis Track damage report to help determine whether the town can qualify for federal funding.
