Sad s-a-d hit me really bad this year. In the past 2 months I gradually rearranged my room so all my activity takes place in the window seat. I put a coffee pot there my chocolate and powdered milk, my medicine, containers of food, and two laptops; they are all squeezed into a few cubic feet right by the window, where I suck in as much light as I can each day, me and my plants

Anyone interested in starting a Senior Seniors Inc in South Lake Tahoe?
Posted on Nextdoor today
I'm embarrassed to admit I complained about Seniors Inc before going to their home pages and learning they target people in their 50s and 60s. When I was in my fifties I did not think of myself as a senior, more like late middle aged. However, around 72 or 3, I noticed things breaking down and realized ah this is what they are talking about when they say aging gracefully. Back in the 1980s and '90s I worked for a non-profit called Humboldt Connections, a unique and creative charity, yes charity, in Eureka; as the title implies, they filled the gaps. We'd get calls from, say, a school saying a student has holes in his shoes, and we would call the Lions Club and they would meet and buy shoes for the child. There were no Grant applications or cumbersome bureaucratic Hoops for the anyone to jump through, we just took one phone call and made another phone call and connected, connected with a Capital C. We served mainly at risk children, who were defined as those who were in a state of near neglect, not bad enough to be put into another home, but with parents who are kind of iffy and so the kid wasn't getting a new jacket in the winter. A phone call to Humboldt Connections and we would find someone in the community to buy the child a jacket. It's hard to believe such a simple and successful organization existed just 30 to 40 years ago because today you'd have to have lawyers and administrators and social workers who work in administration approve anything that you try to do, and as a result pretty much nothing is getting done. I know personally of a senior woman who was sexually assaulted in Barton Hospital and nobody did anything about it. There is no structure to address the issue of institutional neglect and abuse of seniors nearby even though it is a growing problem nationwide. I live in senior housing in South Lake Tahoe and I know people who need dental work, eye surgery, who need rides and recreation, who need check-ins because they are shut-ins and sick and never go out or have a visitor. If we were children, there would probably be several nonprofits and government organizations that would address our needs. Instead we're old people- senior seniors age past 75, who wake up every morning to some new part of the body that is starting to not function. We are in a whole new passage in life, and I think there used to be organizations that looked out for us, but long before the Trump Revolution, services for broke old people were getting cut and now, just this morning I found out another thing our HUD housing managers used to help us with that they can’t anymore. So, I just got this idea, why not start an adjunct group to Seniors Inc and call it Senior Seniors Inc for those over 72. I think that's about the age when body parts start falling off and you just sit in your chair and sigh and ride it out to the end. Anybody else want to start an organization for Fogies of South Lake Tahoe? Any ideas of what they can do? I'm thinking one idea is they could get churches to find volunteers to come out and help old shut-ins. I look forward to seeing what kind of response I get to this Nextdoor post.

I knew something catastrophic was going to happen. In 2015 when I left SoCal, I thought it was going to be from climate, and climate catastrophes are here now in 2026. But these thugs roaming streets of our cities and calling Minneapolis “in theater” like this is war, I'm glad I'm hiding in Tahoe right now, even though I'm isolated so bad it's scary

"Nothingburger? No Nuremberger"- Colbert makes comedy n world history w wowser line at 4.0 in Jan 28 monologue- WATCH for Comedy therapy at DIY Hospice on a Heating Planet blog
Yesterday Noem said, everything I've done I've done at the direction of the president and Stephen Miller. So you were just following orders, this was all just a nothingburger? Oh I'm sorry I misread that. It's a Nuremberger. [Transcript by voice typing] Right now Minnesotans are still being terrorized by Trump's goons and it's not entirely clear when it will end; in the wake of two murders by anti-immigration agents, Trump has removed border patrol agent Greg Bovino, seen here embodying Coco Chanel's famous motto: I love Nazis. MORE BELOW: "ICE Outrage Goes Viral | White House Blame Game | Ilhan Omar: Tough Under Pressure | Poo-tomac River" monologue Colbert Jan 28Cont'd: Bovino has been replaced in Minnesota by border czar and happiest meatball on the steam tray Tom Honan. That's all we know; it's too early to know if Trump is actually trying to deescalate the violence or just rearranging the douchebags on the Titanic.
Right now so far for what we can tell, it looks a little bit like option b because this morning Trump posted surprisingly, Mayor Jacob Frye has just stated that Minneapolis does not and will not enforce Federal immigration laws; this is after having had a very good conversation with him, could somebody please explain that he is playing with fire/
I had a very good conversation no folks I had a very good conversation with Mayor Fry just like i had a great relationship with his uncle Mayor McCheese but now
Folks now mayor fry is playing with fire when he should be playing in the fryer; the administration is feeling the Heat because Americans are outraged Age anti-ICE mania is everywhere; in fact this weekend on Instagram Reddit tiktok and YouTube posts critical of ice went viral even in a political online spaces for example on one subreddit for playfully padding your cat like you're playing the Bongos the moderator got a record number of upvotes after posting quote if you still support Trump / ice even slightly you're not welcome in the sub 2.30 funny [footage]
A lot of the anger has been directed at Homeland Security secretary and girlfriend a lonely sailor made from Driftwood and kelp, Kristi Noem.
On Saturday Noem was. quick to call Alex Pretti a domestic terrorist without evidence; now house Democrats are threatening to impeach her and even some Republicans are demanding her resignation.
But yesterday Trump said no when asked by a reporter if no one would step down adding, I think she's doing a very good job I think she's doing a very good job folks nope she's doing excellent-
There's no one else I'd rather have everyone blame for my mindless cruelty she's perfect first off she's a woman and nobody likes that for her part in trying to blame other people for immediately labeling the murder victim a domestic terrorist.
Yesterday she reportedly said everything I've done I've done at the direction of the president and Stephen Miller.
So you were just following orders this was all just a nothingburger?
Oh I'm sorry I misread that. It's a Nuremberger

For those like me doing Do It Yourself hospice- due to a dying body, planet, government, environment, culture, and everything pretty much completely falling apart- I hope to post something funny most mornings, because that's how I'm surviving. I find comedy usually on YouTube and play it and laugh and it reverses the SAD; so now when I find something that makes me actually laugh out loud, that video will make it to Comedy Therapy at the blog. Court jesters kept their heads...

There's something comforting and warm about a mug of coffee in the morning. If I were an artist, I’d draw a silhouette of a woman holding a cup while looking out the window at the rising light, and it would be a self-portrait. There's even a connection to history in a cup of coffee. I think of the Pioneers who settled Tahoe more than a hundred years ago; undoubtedly there was an iron pot of coffee on the wood burning stove, and first thing a visitor would get when they walked in from the cold was a hot mug in their hands to warm them.

Ambassador orders flags honoring dead Danish soldiers removed from US Embassy display in Copenhagen per Malcolm Nance on the Stephanie Miller show this AM
(I just voice grabbed this quote from the interview. Note linked below; the display was replaced per a press release within an hour after this aired.)
"You've heard about the tragic disgraceful action at the American Embassy yesterday where the US ambassador ordered all these little Danish flags with the names of dead Danish soldiers removed from the flower box in front of the embassy, took them all down 45 soldiers’ names. I'm so glad my apartment faces the street. I'm like a puppy; when someone is walking by, I rush to the window and watch. At this time in my life I'm adjusting to being a shut-in at a time when it's really easy to do everything from home, almost preferable. I have always had unusual timing that way.

A dangerous ice-driven winter storm ripped across the United States Jan 23-24, most punishing in the South and pushing into the Northeast. Cuts to HUD scare me, AI says here is what Trumpsters plan to do, slash & block grant- DIY Hospice on a Heating Planet blog
I live on 1300 a month so without that HUD subsidy, I will have to move into a tent.
Per Google: Recent proposals, particularly from the Trump administration for FY2026, suggest significant cuts to HUD, aiming to slash rental assistance, combine programs into block grants, and limit aid for able-bodied adults, potentially impacting millions of low-income families, seniors, and people with disabilities; these cuts face opposition and legal challenges, with some programs seeing major reductions in funding or restructuring, while Congress negotiates final spending, sometimes increasing budgets despite proposed cuts.
Key Proposed Cuts & Changes (FY2026 Budget Proposals):
- Rental Assistance: A proposed 43% cut ($26.7 billion) to HUD rental assistance, combining Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8), Public Housing, and Project-Based Rental Assistance (PBRA) into a State Rental Assistance Block Grant (SRABG).
- Homelessness Programs (Continuum of Care): A controversial rule change capped funding for permanent housing support services at 30%, potentially pushing over 170,000 people back into homelessness.
- Community Development: Elimination of funding for Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships.
- Assistance Limits: Instituting a two-year cap on rental assistance for able-bodied adults.
- Specific Programs: Cutting funding for Lead Hazard Reduction, Fair Housing Grants, and Self-Sufficiency Programs.
- Vulnerable Populations: Cuts disproportionately affect seniors, veterans, families, and people with disabilities, with estimates suggesting millions could lose housing stability.
- Legal Challenges: Lawsuits were filed by multiple states challenging the legality and harmful effects of the proposed CoC program changes.
- Local Consequences: Cities like San Diego have already closed Section 8 waitlists due to funding shortfalls.
- Congressional Response: While some House negotiations initially aligned with cuts, final appropriations bills have sometimes boosted HUD funding above presidential requests, with the President supporting the final package.
- The debate continues, with ongoing budget negotiations in Congress.
- A federal judge blocked HUD's controversial overhaul of homelessness funding, but the situation remains dynamic as budgets

I remember when people were concerned about seniors living in isolation so they visited shut-ins. That memory comes with the smells light and colors of walking through wildflowers to get to a neighbor's house, in other words a long time ago. But I'm old enough to have been alive way back then.
I remember Los Angeles before there were freeways. From our yard in Pasadena, you could smell orange blossoms from the farms to the south. In the 1950s, my mom and I would drive down La Brea, I think, to go to Knott's Berry farm, which at that time was a restaurant and a few exhibits about the Pioneers who founded California. From Pasadena to Brea the road went up and down Hills and you were driving through orange groves, imagine that.

I wonder if DHS have trackers on their phones and they id'd him as an ICU nurse at the VA and decided to execute Alex Pretti. They can profile people through phones as they walk through the crowd, the tech exists. He was a male nurse for the VA so obviously woke- this is accelerating. I’m scared.

DIY Hospice, huh?
"DIY hospice" started as a joke, but yesterday as I was posting "Earth attacks USA with ice Watch Live at DIY hospice blog," it dawned on me: there might be others like me out there doing Do It Yourself hospice care, fogies taking care of ourselves at home because Social Services for old people are a joke especially in Trump’s America.
We can sit in our EZ chairs laptops on laps watching the planet heat up, watch USA fall apart while we rub hemp on those mysterious wounds appearing on our skin. Hahaha mutating can be fun there’s a Seinfeld rerun on Peacock.
I posted yesterday:
"Earth attacks USA with ICE- Watch Live! Max Velocity & Ryan Hall y'all streaming the storm now at DIY Hospice on a Heating Planet blog- https://cityofangels25.blogspot.com/2026/01/earth-attacks-usa-with-ice.html" You can watch today the 11 hour video of yesterday's stream there now. I posted that then this morning was thinking how inevitable it is that the climate is going to go crazy in the next year. There may be other people, not just oldsters, stuck some place where they can't get medical care that will help them, so all dying at home.
Dying at home alone. But there's Netflix, instacart can bring you beer in a half hour almost any time of day, wine, wine with vodka, weed if you do it.
I'm in South Lake Tahoe, one of the most beautiful places on Earth, so even if I'm stuck inside with nothing to do but look out the window wow you should see how beautiful the view is out my window. I kind of gave up on doctors a long time ago so yeah right now I’m in DIY hospice and I have a feeling I'm not the only one.
CUT paragraph
Which is just as well as the US government has not been able to do things they used to do for years because rich people won’t pay taxes, they need more yachts instead; there’s no budget for broke old people.
So yeah do it yourself hospice.
