Veraracruz, Mexico, October 11th, 2025. 0:35 In the early hours of Friday, October 0:37 10th, 2025, the city of Posa Rico and 0:41 Veraracruz, Mexico was struck by 0:43 catastrophic flash floods triggered by 0:45 relentless rainfall and the overflow of 0:48 the Rio Kazone. 0:52 The deluge, which began around midnight, 0:54 inundated entire neighborhoods, trapped 0:57 families on rooftops, and left a trail 0:59 of destruction across northern 1:01 Veraracruz. 1:04 As of Saturday afternoon, at least 28 1:07 people have been confirmed dead with 1:09 dozens more missing or injured. 1:16 The flooding was part of a broader 1:17 weather system affecting central and 1:19 southeastern Mexico where tropical 1:22 storms have battered the region for 1:23 days. 1:26 In Poser Rica, the Rio Kazoneis 1:29 originating in the mountainous regions 1:31 of Puebla and flowing through several 1:33 municipalities before reaching the Gulf 1:35 of Mexico burst its banks submerging 1:38 homes, roads, and public infrastructure. 1:43 The municipalities of Alamo, Teapache, 1:46 and Tuspon were also severely affected 1:49 with widespread power outages and road 1:51 collapses reported. 1:57 The federal government through the 1:58 National Civil Protection Coordination, 2:01 CNPC, swiftly activated emergency 2:04 protocols. 2:07 Laura Velasquez, the national 2:09 coordinator for civil defense, confirmed 2:11 that rescue and relief operations were 2:13 underway across the affected zones with 2:16 priority given to locating missing 2:18 persons and evacuating stranded 2:20 residents. 2:23 The Secretariat of National Defense, 2:26 Sadena, deployed military units to 2:28 assist with evacuations, distribute 2:31 supplies, and secure flooded areas. 2:38 The governor of Veraracruz, Quitlawak 2:40 Garcia Jimenez, addressed the public on 2:42 Friday morning, expressing deep sorrow 2:45 over the loss of life and pledging full 2:48 support for recovery efforts. 2:52 We are mobilizing all available 2:54 resources to ensure the safety of our 2:56 citizens, Garcia said. 3:00 He confirmed that temporary shelters 3:02 have been opened in schools and 3:04 community centers and that food, water, 3:06 and medical aid were being distributed 3:08 to displaced families. 3:14 Mayor Fernando Regarza of Posa Rica also 3:17 issued a statement urging residents to 3:20 remain calm and follow evacuation 3:22 orders. 3:25 This is one of the worst floods our city 3:27 has ever faced. It is 10:35 projected to make landfall on Mexican 10:37 territory by Sunday. 10:41 Raymond was announced midday on Thursday 10:43 by the United States National Hurricane 10:46 Center, making it the third system this 10:48 week off the western coast of Mexico. 10:52 It joined tropical storm Priscilla and 10:55 post-tropical cyclone octave which 10:57 threatened heavy rain and flooding in 10:59 their paths. 11:02 Meteorologists have warned that the 11:04 Pacific Ocean cooling pattern called 11:06 Leninia which can warp weather worldwide 11:09 and turbocharge hurricanes has returned. 11:13 It may be too late in the hurricane 11:15 season to impact tropical weather in the 11:18 Atlantic, but this Lanina may have other 11:20 impacts from heavy rains to drought 11:23 across the globe. 11:30 Flooding in Veraracruz reaches historic 11:32 levels with rivers overflowing at levels 11:35 not seen in 26 years. 11:39 The severe weather has left several 11:41 municipalities without classes or 11:43 regular activities, as well as flooding 11:46 and puddles that have not been seen in 11:48 more than 20 years. 11:51 Rains have affected several states in 11:53 the country due to the proximity of two 11:56 tropical storms to Mexico.
